Clapham North deep level

CLAPHAM NORTH
(deep level shelter)

One of seven shelters built during World War II underneath Northern Line stations, the plan was to incorporate them later into an express version of the Northern Line.

The list of shelters built on the Northern Line is:

Cross passage between the two tunnels. This particular shelter suffers from damp, as can be seen by the stalactites, although the shelter has been cleaned up recently.

The tunnels were split into two levels. This is the upper level. The brick structure to the right of the photo is a set of step descending to the lower level.
