NORTH END (a.k.a. BULL &BUSH) - Pt.2

(never opened)

North End station, also known as Bull And Bush station, was intended as a station between Hampstead and Golders Green - the decision to abandon the project was taken only after the lower parts of the station had already been constructed. Surface access was only provided in the 1950s when the below ground area was adapted for use as a floodgate control room for the London Underground. A staircase and a manually operated lift provided the access from top to bottom. The access building on the surface can be seen in Hampstead Way.

Returning to the t-junction, this route leads toward the platforms.

The northbound 'platform'. This station is unique amongst the disused stations in that it was never opened to the public. The work carried out on it hadn't reached the point of fitting out the station; the tunnel wall on the right has not been tiled.

The wall on the left is a partition separating the track from the platform area.

Progressing further along the northbound platform in a northerly direction, this photo is looking back at the partitioned area and also, in the foreground, a section of railed platform. The arc of light that can be seen on the track area (directly below the lamp suspended from the ceiling) is a small section just prior to the partitioned section where the track is visible.

Moving further northward again, this northward view is another area partitioned from the track.

Sign on the northbound platform. The distance in the other direction, i.e. to Hampstead station, is approximately 1400m.

The southbound platform looking northward. Other stations from this period have the Yerkes style hoops across the ceiling. This station doesn't have them, as construction was halted before they could be installed.

Crossing over the southbound platform. The passageway curves to the right at the end but is sealed off just out of sight of the cameras position.
